How can art contribute to a balanced symbiosis between technology and living structures in our society? Founded in 2023 by Lyda Bekker and Miriam de Koning, the Academie van Leiden operates under the vision that art and culture are vital in an open, democratic society. This summer, students like Maartje Alders, Michiel Keller, Henny Willems, Bastiaan Luijk, Inge Reisbergman, and Danielle Ooms engaged in a pilot project. They explored and formulated ideas that contribute to high artistry in the context of the Symbiocene, a term coined by Glenn Albrecht. This era represents a harmonious balance between living systems, beings, and technology. The academy serves as a nurturing ground for research and the exchange of ideas, considered essential for societal progress.
