Renovatie bunkers 2023-2029

BioArt Village, formerly known as the German officers' mess from World War II, comprises five bunkers disguised as farmhouses. In the Eindhoven region, these bunkers are better known as the “German houses,” located opposite the Philips fruit garden. It's the place where the foundation BioArt Laboratories has been conducting its activities at the intersection of art and science since 2015. The foundation acquired the bunkers in 2022, and in the same year, the location became an official municipal monument.

To continue its activities in the future, significant renovation of the buildings is needed. The foundation could use some help with this! In addition to the involvement of young people who can temporarily stay at BioArt Village, the aim is also to engage interested retirees and other volunteers from Eindhoven and the surrounding area in the renovation. Additionally, companies with an affinity for the foundation are sought to provide materials and expertise, thus collaborating. All help and collaborations are very important, especially since the foundation's resources are limited.

Becoming a Volunteer?

There is a wide range of work to be done. There are five buildings in varying states of repair. Work includes partially replacing window frames (woodworking), sanding and painting, laying cabling, applying insulation materials and plastering. There is also the possibility to perform gardening work.

The foundation is urgently looking for handy volunteers who enjoy contributing to the renovation at this beautiful location for one day a week or one day every two weeks, working together with others. There is guidance regarding priorities and supervision for the work and use of materials. A volunteer day starts at 10:00 am with a joint briefing and usually runs until 4:30 pm, with two coffee/tea breaks and a joint sandwich lunch provided by the foundation, ensuring regular breaks. Volunteer groups are typically no larger than 4 people per day, and preferred days can be indicated upon registration. Volunteers are also actively invited to all public activities of BioArt Laboratories.
